Ray Swinnerton, vice-president of The Bendigo Prospecting Club, expressed the young father’s delight with his discovery. He was thrilled when he found it, as you can imagine. “He didn’t want to be named until he sold them. It was very unusual,” added Swinnerton, emphasizing that gold mining is more of a hobby for most people. “Most of us don’t do this for money. The detector alone costs about $7,000. Selling the gold can also be difficult because a license is needed to sell it to foreign buyers. I think he has sold one of the nuggets and is preparing to sell the other.
